Importing & Exporting Courses
From USF Information Technology
You can transfer materials between courses using the Export/Import options found in Blackboard. One advantage of this method is that you can exchange materials between different Blackboard systems, whereas Course Copy only works within the same system.
[edit] Exporting/Archiving a Course
More than likely, the first thing you want to do is export an old course so you can import it into a newer one, or just save it for later. The following steps will show you how to export your course contents into a zipped file, which can be imported into another course later. Note: Archive is for saving your whole course, Export lets you pick and choose what to save.
- First, log into Blackboard and go to the Control Panel of the course you want materials from
- Under the Course Options box, click on Export Course
- Click on the Export toolbar button to select course materials to export, or click the Archive toolbar button to export all course materials (skip the next step if you choose archive)
- Select the course materials you wish to export by checking the check boxes next to each
- Click the submit button at the bottom to start the export
- An email will be sent to you when the export has completed. Usually this takes about five to ten minutes (or longer if the course contains large materials).
- After the export has been completed successfully, the file will be listed on the Export Course page as a .zip file
- Click on the file link and click Save when the prompt appears to save the file to your computer
- Your course materials have now been exported and archived on your local computer!
[edit] Importing a Course (Package)
After you have exported course materials, as the above method demonstrates, you can then import the materials into a different course. The procedure for this is as follows:
- First, log into Blackboard and go to the Control Panel of the course you want to place the materials in
- Under the Course Options box, click on Import Package
- For step 2: Select Package, Click the browse button to find and select the .zip file you saved to your computer during the export process.
- For step 3: Select Course Materials, Select the materials you want to import from the package by checking the check boxes next to each item, then click the submit button.
- The materials you selected to import from the package should now be added to your course.
